Catalogue of road types for development of the national road network
Road types are defined in response to the need to develop France’s national road network in a coherent way, and to have road characteristics that are readable by users and that offer a good level of safety.
This document constitutes the new Catalogue of Road Types for Development of the National Road Network. For each of the eight road types, it offers a description sheet giving details of the uses, the technical characteristics and the expected performances / impacts. It also proposes a method to help select a road type, for use during road suitability studies.
This work is intended for project owners of a variety of types of road project: development of existing roadways (localised or extensive roadwork) or creating new infrastructure.
It has “instruction” status for the national road network, as conferred by the technical report of 1 October 2018. It can be used by the local authorities for developing projects on their own structural network.
