Codatu (Cooperation for the Development and Improvement of Urban Transport) is a French non-profit association set up in 1980 to support cities and countries in transition throughout the world in defining and implementing mobility policies and sustainable urban transport projects.

Cerema has been a member of the board of Codatu (Cooperation for the Development and Improvement of Urban Transport) for many years and maintains close links with the association.

It regularly takes part in the international conference organised by the association every two or three years, at which academics, researchers, technicians, representatives of local authorities, transport professionals and civil society from all over the world are invited to discuss a topical issue through conferences, workshops, plenary sessions and training courses.

This is a major international event in the field of sustainable mobility in countries in transition. Cerema's contribution to this conference offers visibility to international players in the sector.

Cerema, which is involved in the Mobilise Your City initiative with Codatu, has recognised expertise in sustainable mobility planning. Mobilise Your City aims to support around a hundred cities in developing countries in planning sustainable urban mobility, including several in India.

The 17th Codatu international conference was held in Hyderabad, India, from 4 to 6 November 2017, coupled with the 10th edition of the Urban Mobility India conference & exhibition, organised by the Institute of Urban Transport of India and Hyderabad Metro Rail. Cerema participated in the preparation of Codatu XVII and contributed to its running. Christian Curé chaired a session entitled "Governance, urban planning and mobility". Thierry Gouin was a member of the conference's scientific committee and, with the Lyon urban planning agency, organised and led a dialogue session entitled "How to develop urban or social projects through the dynamics of transport projects".

The next Codatu conference will be held in Dakar in 2020, to mark the association's 40th anniversary.
